We often call the German unification a unification through absorption which West Germany absorbed East Germany with its economic power. However, it should be noted that the unification was accomplished by the East German National Assembly deciding to transfer to the West German federal government thus should be called choice/transfer unification rather than an absorption unification. According to whether we view it as absorption or as choice/transfer changes the definition and the unification method. We must also note that a functionalistic unification method is not preferable since it is only a wish for functionalism to correctly work since we have an experience of war and the extreme military confrontation.
